She Vanished After Leaving A Hospital. A Man Allegedly Killed Her And Stole Her Dog.

A 29-year-old woman disappeared after leaving a Charlotte hospital and was later found dead in a wooded area. Investigators say a man connected to her final days killed her, concealed her body and took her dog, which remains missing.

On July 2, 2026, 29-year-old Shaquina Latavia Harris was last physically seen after visiting her sister at a hospital in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. Court records indicate Harris was accompanied by 45-year-old Floyd Morris Long during that visit before her phone later tracked back to Long’s home.

Later that afternoon, Harris made her last known social media post at approximately 4:00 p.m.

Just before midnight, Harris made her last known phone call to her grandmother.

Investigators said Harris’ phone remained in the area of Long’s home after returning from the hospital and showed its final activity near his residence at approximately 10:00 a.m. on July 5.

Long later told investigators that Harris had left his home before he returned at approximately 5:00 p.m. on July 5.

According to an affidavit, Long claimed Harris’ belongings and her white, long-haired Yorkie-terrier mix were gone and allegedly sent Harris a text asking why she had left his back door unlocked.

Investigators obtained Ring camera footage from neighboring homes.

At approximately 4:52 p.m. on July 5, Long was allegedly seen leaving his home with an unidentified man while Harris’ dog followed behind them.

The three reportedly got into a vehicle and drove away.

The unidentified man later told investigators that while they were driving, Long allegedly said he had “did something bad” and needed help moving something.

Long then reportedly began asking the man about fishing locations and other secluded areas.

According to the affidavit, the man told Long about an area off Statesville Road that Long allegedly became particularly interested in.

After the two returned to Long’s home, the man reportedly entered a bedroom and saw a woman matching Harris’ description lying on a bed.

The witness told investigators he touched the woman and found her cold to the touch with blood coming from her nose.

The affidavit does not indicate that the witness saw Harris being killed.

The man reportedly told Long he would take Harris’ dog and then left the home with the animal.

Investigators allege Long returned to the Statesville Road area at approximately 8:30 p.m. on July 6.

On July 13, Harris’ family reported her missing.

Authorities later obtained Harris’ cell phone records and searched Long’s home and vehicle.

Investigators said several areas of blood were discovered inside the home, along with a firearm. Additional areas of blood were reportedly found inside Long’s vehicle.

On July 14, authorities publicly asked for assistance locating Harris.

Family members and friends continued searching for Harris, distributing missing-person flyers and looking along areas near where she had last been known to be.

On July 16, the unidentified witness reportedly met Long at a QT gas station.

According to the affidavit, Long took Harris’ dog back from the man.

The dog has not been seen since.

Investigators later searched a wooded area off Statesville Road and recovered skeletal remains along with items belonging to Harris.

Court records identify the remains as Harris’.

On August 8, Long was jailed on a separate charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.

He was released on August 14 under electronic monitoring.

On August 15, Long was taken back into custody and charged with first-degree murder, felony larceny of a dog, and concealing or failing to report a death.

Prosecutors allege Long secretly disposed of Harris’ body in an effort to conceal her death.

On August 17, Long appeared before a Mecklenburg County judge and was denied bond.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive, explained the nature of Harris and Long’s relationship, or said what ultimately happened to Harris’ dog.
