A dispute over a $15 lash deposit allegedly escalated into a deadly confrontation that left a 23-year-old pregnant woman dead and another woman facing a capital murder charge.

On July 10, 2026, officers responded to a home in Mobile, Alabama, after a woman was shot during a confrontation outside the residence. The woman had been shot once in the chest and died from her injuries.

The victim was identified as 23-year-old Chyna Hickman.

Chyna was pregnant with her third child at the time of her death.

According to testimony presented in court on August 13, 2026, 29-year-old Kanedrea Davis told investigators she went to Chyna’s home to get a $15 deposit refunded after Chyna allegedly rescheduled a lash appointment multiple times.

At approximately 8 p.m., Davis reportedly called 911 and told dispatchers that Chyna was being aggressive.

About 30 minutes later, a neighbor called 911 and reported that two women were arguing and one had been shot in the chest.

Witnesses testified that Davis allegedly arrived at Chyna’s home and threw a wooden block at her vehicle.

Chyna then came outside carrying a broom.

Prosecutors said Davis pulled out a gun during the confrontation.

Chyna reportedly put her hands up and asked, “You really gonna shoot me?”

Prosecutors said Davis then shot Chyna once in the chest before leaving the scene.

Davis was arrested approximately one hour later.

She was initially charged with murder before prosecutors upgraded the charge to capital murder because Chyna was pregnant at the time of the shooting.

On August 13, 2026, Davis appeared in court for a preliminary hearing as Chyna’s family filled the courtroom.

Davis’ defense attorney argued that the confrontation appeared to have been aggressive on both sides.

The judge found probable cause and sent the case to a grand jury.

Davis remains jailed without bond.

Prosecutors have not yet decided whether they will seek the death penalty.
