A Massachusetts father had grown so concerned about his 17-year-old son’s behavior that he began hiding knives inside the family home. Days later, the teen was accused of killing his mother and 14-year-old brother.
On August 11, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a home on Martha Lane in Acton, Massachusetts, after a man requested a welfare check because he had been unable to reach his wife and children. Upon arrival, officers found a 14-year-old boy deceased on the first floor and a woman deceased in the basement. Both had suffered obvious trauma. The victims were identified as 45-year-old Sudha Venkatesan and her 14-year-old son, Siddharth Aravind. Investigators said Sudha was last seen by her husband when he left for work at approximately 7 a.m. that morning. Siddharth was seen at a recreation center earlier that morning and returned home around noon. A tutor later arrived at the family’s home for a scheduled appointment, but no one answered the door. Authorities believe Sudha and Siddharth were killed sometime during the hours between when they were last seen and when their bodies were discovered. Prosecutors said the official causes of death have not yet been determined, but evidence at the scene indicated both victims were involved in what was described as a physical and violent struggle. Investigators believe blunt force trauma was used in some fashion against both Sudha and Siddharth. Authorities are still working to determine what weapon or weapons were involved. Sudha’s 17-year-old son, Arjun Aravind, was not at the home when police arrived. Investigators said Arjun left the residence in his mother’s Honda Accord. At approximately 3:40 a.m. on August 12, officers responding to a business alarm in Wayland located the Honda Accord in a parking lot with Arjun inside. He was taken into custody without incident. Prosecutors said investigators recovered a number of items from the vehicle that corresponded with evidence found at the murder scene. Authorities have not announced a motive. However, investigators said Arjun had recently demonstrated concerning behavior. According to the Middlesex District Attorney, Arjun had used the internet and ChatGPT to conduct searches involving theoretical ideas or fantasy stories about killing his family. Court documents also show Arjun’s father had recently become concerned about his son’s behavior and internet activity and began hiding knives inside the family’s home. Police said Arjun was also known to them because he had run away from home at one point in 2025. Arjun was charged with two counts of murder, assault and battery, motor vehicle theft and additional offenses. He initially appeared in juvenile court on some of the charges on August 12. On August 13, Arjun appeared in Concord District Court in handcuffs, where not guilty pleas were entered on his behalf to the murder charges and other offenses. He was ordered held without bail. Following the arraignment, Arjun’s defense attorney said he did not realize his mother and brother were dead when he left the house and described him as being in a state of shock. The defense attorney also said the family had recently moved to Acton in an effort to provide additional support and better schools for the children. She said Arjun’s father wants his son to receive help and that Arjun has not spoken with his father since the killings. The defense has requested a psychiatric evaluation. Arjun is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause hearing on September 11.
