A Texas man allowed his cousin into his home to take a shower. Minutes later, investigators say the cousin walked out of the bathroom, told him, “This is for you,” and opened fire.
On August 9, 2026, at 9:47 p.m., officers responded to the 2800 block of Summer Avenue in Waco, Texas, following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began providing medical aid, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim was identified as 49-year-old Yotanca Calhoun.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Yotanca’s wife told investigators that his cousin, 43-year-old Michael Calhoun, had come to their home and asked if he could take a shower because he was sweaty.
The couple allowed Michael inside and sat together on the couch while he showered.
Investigators said Michael later walked out of the bathroom, told Yotanca, “This is for you,” and allegedly opened fire on him.
Yotanca’s wife immediately dropped to the floor and took cover underneath a table.
According to the affidavit, Michael then allegedly attempted to shoot her but had run out of bullets.
The woman ran into a bedroom closet, where she hid while Michael allegedly told her, “Don’t do it.”
She later heard Michael leave the residence.
When she came out of the bedroom, she found Yotanca lying on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds to his head, neck, shoulder, chest and groin area.
Yotanca’s wife provided investigators with Michael’s address.
Police said Michael had fled before officers arrived at the shooting scene but was located a short time later in the 2600 block of Alexander Avenue and taken into custody.
Michael was charged with first-degree murder.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed what they believe led to the shooting.
Michael remains held in the McLennan County Jail on a $1 million bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
