More than three years later, she pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 13 years in prison. On June 7, 2023, at approximately 7:15 p.m., authorities responded to the 2100 block of Northwest 43rd Street in Ocala, Florida, after a lawn maintenance worker found a teenager’s body in a wooded area. Investigators determined the teen had been shot and ruled his death a homicide. The victim was identified as 17-year-old Lezarius Graham. Graham had been reported missing earlier that day after family and friends had not heard from him since June 6\. Those close to him said it was unusual for him to miss work, but he had failed to show up for his scheduled shift. Investigators determined that Graham had arranged to meet then-19-year-old Leilani Ashantae Brown, who knew him from school and occasionally purchased marijuana from him. During later court testimony, Brown said she had been in a relationship with then-23-year-old Dexavion J’Neil Brown, who is not related to her. She testified that Dexavion was possessive and that she was afraid of him. According to Brown, Dexavion became upset after learning Graham was affiliated with another gang and told her there was a price on Graham’s head. Brown said Dexavion ordered her to arrange a marijuana deal with Graham and that she complied because she was scared. Brown drove a stolen Toyota Corolla to the arranged meeting while Dexavion allegedly hid inside the trunk. When Graham got into the vehicle, Brown testified that Dexavion pushed down the back seat and shot him. Graham got out of the vehicle and ran. Brown said she and Dexavion fled the area and later discovered Graham’s phone inside the vehicle. They threw the phone away, spray-painted the stolen car and wiped it down. Brown also testified that Dexavion threatened to kill her and her child. During the investigation, detectives connected the stolen Toyota to the case and detained Brown and others during a traffic stop. Brown initially denied knowing anything about Graham’s death but later admitted that she had information about the shooting. Brown was charged with first-degree murder with a firearm and grand theft auto. Dexavion was charged with first-degree murder with a firearm, attempted first-degree murder with a firearm and tampering with an electronic monitoring device. In July 2026, Brown testified against Dexavion during his murder trial. She acknowledged that she had lied to investigators during her initial interviews and that some of her previous statements were inconsistent. During the trial, Davinci Cheesman Dawson, who was already serving a lengthy prison sentence for an unrelated murder, testified that he was the person who shot Graham. Brown disputed Dawson’s testimony and said she did not know him. A jury ultimately found Dexavion not guilty. The charges against Brown remained pending. Prosecutors later agreed to reduce Brown’s first-degree murder charge to second-degree murder as part of a plea agreement. They told the court that Brown’s cooperation had helped lead investigators to both her and Dexavion and that without her cooperation, no one would have been arrested and the case would not have gone to trial. On August 13, 2026, 22-year-old Brown pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and grand theft auto. The judge said he reluctantly accepted the plea agreement and sentenced Brown to 13 years in prison. Brown received credit for 1,107 days already served in jail and was ordered to pay $4,380 in restitution to Graham’s mother.
