More than two years later, the man responsible was sentenced to eight years in prison. On February 1, 2024, a hairstylist arrived more than an hour late for a prepaid 5:00 a.m. appointment at a salon in Harker Heights, Texas. The client had paid $400 in advance and demanded his money back. The stylist refused to issue a refund but offered to perform the services instead. The disagreement escalated into an argument. According to court records, then-37-year-old Keishon Jason Simpson retrieved a handgun from his backpack while arguing with the stylist. Surveillance footage showed Simpson pushing the woman against a wall, pointing the gun at her and striking her with it hard enough to crack one of her teeth. An arrest affidavit also stated that Simpson placed the firearm in the woman’s mouth during the confrontation. Although Simpson had originally demanded his $400 refund, prosecutors said he then ordered the woman to send him $1,000 through Cash App. The stylist told investigators that Simpson also took an unknown amount of cash from the business, her vehicle keys and mail and other documents from her vehicle. She said she feared for her life and was concerned Simpson could later come to her home because the stolen mail contained her address. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and traced the phone number Simpson had used to communicate with the stylist. The Cash App transaction was also linked to an account believed to belong to him. The stylist later identified Simpson in a photo lineup. Simpson was arrested by U.S. Marshals and charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery. On April 24, 2024, he was indicted on the charge. On June 26, 2026, 39-year-old Simpson pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery. During his August 13 sentencing hearing, prosecutors played approximately five minutes of surveillance footage showing the confrontation. Simpson’s attorney told the court that Simpson had no previous criminal charges and argued that the robbery had not been planned. The defense requested 10 years of deferred adjudication probation. Prosecutors asked for 30 years in prison, arguing that Simpson had terrorized a small-business owner because he was angry over the refund dispute. Simpson also testified during the hearing and admitted that he had lost control. He told the court that he forced the stylist to give him money and said he wished he had simply left instead of allowing the situation to escalate. After approximately three hours of testimony, the judge sentenced Simpson to eight years in prison. Simpson, who had been free on bond before sentencing, was taken into custody.
