A Minnesota man has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison for his role in the massive Feeding Our Future fraud scheme and for attempting to interfere with a cooperating witness.

According to federal prosecutors, 34-year-old Abdinasir Mahamed Abshir participated in a $250 million fraud scheme that exploited the Federal Child Nutrition Program during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program was intended to provide meals to children and families in need.

Abshir later pleaded guilty on March 7, 2025.

But his case did not stop with the fraud.

On February 18, 2025, while co-defendants Aimee Bock and Salim Said were on trial, prosecutors said Abshir approached a cooperating witness before the witness was scheduled to testify.

Federal authorities said the encounter amounted to witness tampering and obstruction of justice.

Investigators said the broader Feeding Our Future conspiracy stole money from a federal program designed to feed children while families were struggling during the pandemic.

Federal officials also said Abshir and others attempted to use money to corrupt the judicial process after the fraud investigation began.

On August 18, 2026, Abshir was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison, or six years and six months.

He became the 23rd defendant sentenced in connection with the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI with assistance from IRS Criminal Investigation and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
