He Blamed Masked Intruders For His Girlfriend's Death. Then He Admitted Shooting Her.

A Tennessee man blamed masked intruders for his girlfriend’s killing before investigators uncovered a different story — one that ended with his admission that he shot her as she ran away.

On December 9, 2023, at approximately 4:33 a.m., officers responded to the 1300 block of Rayner Street in Memphis, Tennessee, following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound and a man with a stab wound to his hand. The woman was transported to a hospital in critical condition, where she later died.

The victim was identified as 32-year-old Jasmine Eason.

Court records show that in August 2021, Harris had previously been charged with aggravated assault and domestic assault after a pregnant former girlfriend accused him of shooting at her while she was driving. She also told investigators Harris threatened to kill her if she left him. That case was later dismissed because of a lack of prosecution.

At the time of Eason’s killing, then-36-year-old Kordelro Harris was her boyfriend.

Investigators said Harris initially claimed two unknown men wearing ski masks, armed with guns and a knife, kicked in his bedroom door and demanded money.

Harris told police one of the men stabbed him in the hand while another shot Eason.

Four juveniles, ages 17, 9, 6 and 2, were found unharmed inside the home. Three of them were Eason’s children.

Investigators interviewed the 17-year-old, 9-year-old and 6-year-old, and all three reportedly provided information that contradicted Harris’ account of what happened.

Police later executed a search warrant at the home and recovered a bloody 9mm handgun and several spent 9mm shell casings.

Investigators determined the handgun had been reported stolen during a vehicle burglary in December 2021.

Authorities also recovered a Diamondback AR-style rifle that had been reported stolen in February 2018, along with marijuana and cocaine.

After investigators confronted Harris with evidence that contradicted his original story, he admitted shooting Eason.

Harris told investigators he and Eason had been fighting when she grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the hand.

He said the stabbing angered him, so he retrieved a gun from a dresser and shot Eason as she was running away.

Eason’s family later said she had been afraid of Harris and frequently had to defend herself from him.

Relatives said Eason had been trying to leave the relationship before she was killed.

Eason was a mother of eight and an entrepreneur who braided hair in her community. Her family said three of her children were inside the home when she was shot.

Harris was initially charged with second-degree murder and several additional offenses.

On May 14, 2026, a Shelby County jury found Harris guilty of voluntary manslaughter and employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. Other local reporting states the jury returned guilty verdicts on six counts total.

On August 12, 2026, Harris was sentenced to 20 years, 11 months and 29 days in prison.
