According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, a pregnant woman was found shot to death on January 28, 2020 in Wesson, Arkansas.

The coroner of Union County identified the woman as 22-year-old Marchella Modica.

Marchella was found in the ditch in the Wesson area, about 15 miles outside of El Dorado.

Family members believe that Marchella was shot and left for dead. They said a school bus full of children passed by the area Tuesday morning and saw what they believed to be a body laying in the ground. When the bus driver came back, the body was still there. An investigation followed.

Family members said they are at a loss of words over Marchella’s untimely death. She leaves behind a 5-year-old daughter. She was pregnant and expecting a baby boy in just a few weeks.

They say this is an open investigation and they are treating it as a possible homicide. Investigators have not released too many details, though they are actively investigating leads.

Her body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for further investigation.

A family friend set up a GoFund me page. If you would like to help with Marchella’s funeral expenses, you can donate here.
