A 3-year-old boy accidentally shot himself while playing with a gun at his grandmother’s home in Clyde, Texas.
Authorities said they were called to a home on CR 525 near Clyde about 9:15 a.m.
According to Callahan County Sheriff Terry Joy, a little boy found a .25 caliber pistol at his great grandmother’s house and was playing with it when the gun went off.
The bullet was lodged between his brain and nose.
Citizens EMS rushed the boy to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. He was then transferred to Fort Worth.
3-year-old Keegan Vasquez died just before midnight January 31, 2020 at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth.
“Horrific, horrible situation,” said Joy. “It could have been avoided if they’d had the gun secured and unloaded.”
Its unknown at this time whether charges will be filed.
