A mother and father was arrested for child abuse after their 2-year-old son was found malnourished with multiple fractures and brain injuries.

21-year-old Jade Newman and 25-year-old Delane Bostic, made their first court appearance in Fayetteville, NC on Friday and were ordered held on $250,000 bond each.

Prosecutors said the parents brought the toddler to a hospital earlier last week. The doctors found the child weighed no more than 18 pounds. The boy ate his own feces, according to an affidavit read in court.

X-rays that were performed at the hospital found skull fractures, rib fractures, and injuries to the brain.

Delane was arrested on Thursday, and Jade was taken into custody the next day.

Neighbors said two children lived at the home shared by Delane and Jade. The children were never being watch and were naked. The condition of the second child is unknown.

One neighbor said he was shocked.

“I never looked at them like that,” Tay Graham said. “I never thought they would do something to a kid like that. I don’t even know what to say about it. I’m glad it wasn’t one of my young ones.”
